Marian Vestments

Priests wear Marian vestments during Masses and celebrations dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. They express devotion and reverence for the Mother of God. They are used on Marian feast days, votive Masses, processions, and Saturday liturgies in honour of Mary.

Marian Chasubles

There is a long-standing tradition of using festal white vestments with colourful floral embroidery and greenery for Marian feasts. They reflect the natural beauty of spring and summer and the spiritual beauty associated with Mary.

The Marian chasubles traditionally feature Marian symbols: lilies, roses, crowned monograms, stars, and depictions of Mary under various titles. The elements reflect her role in the Church—her purity, humility, and spiritual motherhood.

Vestments for Marian Feasts

Common colours of the vestments for Marian Feasts include white, gold, and—in some regions—blue. You will find Marian Roman, Gothic, and semi-Gothic chasubles. They are made from rich materials: damask, silk, or brocade. Moreover, they feature rich embroidery with gold or silver thread. Bishops may wear Marian copes, and deacons may use dalmatics with Marian motifs.

The copes and chasubles have a standard length of 140 cm, which is suitable for most celebrants. They can be custom-made to fit if necessary. The vestments need to be dry-cleaned with chemical washing only. When ironing, do not exceed a temperature of 110°C to protect the embroidery and fabric.
