Lent
( number of products: 42 )Priests wear Lent chasubles during the solemn preparation for Easter. These vestments feature a deep purple colour that symbolises penance, reflection, and spiritual preparation. Purple has been the traditional colour of Lent since early Christian times. It visually sets this period apart from other liturgical seasons. It is used throughout Lent except for one day: Laetare Sunday (the fourth Sunday of Lent). On that day, rose (pink) chasubles may be worn as a sign of anticipated joy and hope.
Lent Chasubles
Chasubles for Lent come in several distinct styles:
- The Roman chasubles feature a wide, full cloak that covers most of the priest's body
- The Gothic chasubles are narrower and have shorter sides.
Lent chasubles feature simple orphreys in vertical columns or Y-shaped patterns, the Christogram IHS, and the Christ himself in a Passion theme.
When a priest dons the Lenten chasuble, this action carries profound symbolic significance. The vestment represents the “yoke of Christ”. It visually reminds the celebrant and congregation of Jesus' words to take up his yoke.
H2: Vestments for Lent
The Lent chasubles are made from premium damask fabric. The damask weave creates subtle patterns within the fabric itself. Some models can be machine washed at temperatures up to 40°C, while others need to be dry-cleaned. Gentle ironing at low temperature (up to 110°C) will restore the vestment's crisp appearance.
Some of our vestments for Lent come with a matching stole, creating a coordinated appearance for liturgical celebrations. The standard dimensions are 130 cm in length and 154 cm in width. Custom sizing is available upon request.
